Brett West

Brett West is an attorney practicing plaintiff’s personal injury law, family law, and criminal defense. Mr. West brings a wide breadth of experience both professionally and legally to Brooks & Baez. Since his first summer job at fifteen, Mr. West has worked with people to build lasting professional relationships. He has served and advised clients in a variety of industries, from food and construction to commercial real estate and luxury car sales.
Prior to acceptance into the Juris Doctor program of the University of Richmond, Mr. West interned at personal injury litigation firm Alpert Schreyer in Waldorf, Maryland. While studying at Richmond Law, Brett honed his litigation skills with externships at the Fredericksburg and Petersburg Public Defender’s Offices, the Henrico Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, and in private practice at Erin L.T. Ranney, PLLC. Mr. West took an early interest in zealous representation in the courtroom and, after competing successfully onto the Trial Advocacy team, was voted by his peers to join the Executive Council. A natural competitor, Mr. West represented Richmond Law in regional and national competitions, including the John L. Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy Competition, where he advanced to the national semi-final round.
As the proud son of two military parents, Mr. West was called to serve and elected Vice President of the Veterans and Military Law Association, where he advocated for veterans’ rights and headed up annual Veterans Day Commemorations at the University of Richmond. Prior to joining Brooks & Baez, Mr. West served his community in local personal injury law firms. In his free time, Mr. West enjoys beach volleyball, lifting weights with his wife, and going to local concerts in Richmond.
